Caliper Studio by Ty Cole in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, USA

The images were taken at Caliper Studio’s metal fabrication shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Like Caliper, Williamsburg is filled with great artists working hard to make a living doing what they’re passionate about.

Name:Ty Cole

Place you live: S4th & Berry St., Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Place your photo was taken: Caliper Studio, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Can you sum up your spot? Williamsburg is one subway stop away from Manhattan where you’ll find some great food, bars and art. A place where many artist (musicians, painters, photographers, etc.) migrate to be around like-minded people. Yes, it can appear a little too hip at times but all in all it’s a great place.

Occupation: Freelance Photographer

Preoccupation: Hiking, movies and taking more pictures.

A perfect day? For me, personally, is a long day shooting with drinks and good food to wrap up the day.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Visit different neighborhoods and eat the local ethnic food. (Jackson Heights, Queens = best Indian food)

A perfect meal in Williamsburg?

1) Pick up pulled pork & beef brisket from Fette Sau. Then walk over to Peter’s Since 1969, on Bedford, and pick up multiple sides (mac&cheese, collard greens, mashed potatoes, etc..). After that walk down Bedford to Spuyten Duyvil Grocery (now closed, unfortunately, however the Spuytin Duyvil bar is across the street from Fette Sau) to pick up my favorite beer, Shlankerla Helles Lager Bier then go back to my house to eat chow down with friends. After meal drink, Templeton Rye purchased at BQE Liquors for a great discount price.

2) A Dumont Burger, cooked medium w/ gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, fries and a side of their famous Mac&Cheese(w/ bacon) at Dumont Burger. Washed down with a tasty Brooklyn Lager.

What is the best thing about your spot? Location, location, location and the fact that most everyone around you is working towards a goal, artistic or not. It’s a good energy and that’s why I love NY as a whole.

What is the worst?

1) Drunken assholes who make too much noise at 5am and piss in the street.

2)Most things are overpriced. But everything in NYC is overpriced.

A little known fact about where you live? Peter Criss, drummer for Kiss, was born here.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Hard question. Favorite place I’ve visited; Barcelona.

Who are your three favorite photographers? Arnold NewmanHenri Cartier-Bresson & Harry Callahan. I could go on for days.
