Depth by Christian Morin in Los Angeles, California, USA

This illustration was inspired by Andy Warhol. He said, “I’m a deeply superficial person” which reminded me of the bad wrap LA gets being associated with Hollywood and surf culture. I like to think we care about looks and style but there’s an intellectual depth as well. We just don’t walk around wearing it on our sleeve. We wear short sleeve shirts all the time, there’s no room for pedant’s.

Name:Christian Morin

Place you live: Los Angeles

Place your graphic is designed for: LA

Can you sum up Los Angeles? LA’s urban planning (or lack there of) is a little crazy. It’s a huge city with lots of individual neighborhoods, that feel like separate cities themselves. I live in Echo Park, a little neighborhood that has a great indie scene living side by side with a large Mexican community. There are so many other great towns to explore. My favorites are: Venice beach, Los Feliz, and Pasadena.

Occupation: Designer, art director, Sunday painter

Preoccupation: making music, technology, pretty girls

What is a perfect day in LA? 75º weather, good coffee, working in the studio all morning. Skate lunch break. More studio work. Nap. Then meeting friends for dinner/drinks.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Go see the Eames House. Eat at Cole’s. Get your dance on at La Cita.

A perfect meal? LA has great Mexican food, just find a spot a go for it. We have great taco trucks.

What is the best thing about the place you live? The diversity

And the worst? traffic

A little known fact about where you live? the traffic isn’t that bad

Where is your favorite place in the world? Paris

Who are three of your favorite designers/illustrators? Paul RandIsamu NogouchiOlimpia Zagnoli
