Lands End by Brice Matson in San Francisco, California

This image was taken in summer. San Francisco is notorious for it’s unseasonably cold summers and this day was no exception. This was actually just a snapshot of a friend with a little 35mm point and shoot. I’m generally pretty methodical with picture taking and try to avoid snapshots but this one worked out.

Name:Brice Matson

Place you live: San Francisco, California

Place your photo was taken: Lands End, SF

Can you sum up San Francisco? It’s like a city, only smaller.

Occupation: Photographer/ Sometime Videographer/ Radical Homemaker

Preoccupation: My wife, my Schnauzer, surfing and lately surfboard shaping.

A perfect day in San Francisco? A warm fall, indian summer type day. Or any warm day after a spell of cold and miserable ones, it cheers the whole town up.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? There’s so much to do but make sure you check out Golden Gate Park for sure.

A perfect meal in San Francisco? Fried chicken at Beast and the Hare. The first time I ate there they had a bunch of Eirik Johnson photos hanging, I was sold.

What is the best thing about your spot? It’s close proximity to some really wild and beautiful places. It’s strange to cross the Golden Gate Bridge and instantly be out of the city and underneath some giant redwoods.

What is the worst? Funnily enough, with such a colorful history and population San Francisco is not really a great town for artists, freelancers or small businesses generally… it’s super expensive and essentially a financial center for big banks and now tech companies moving in from Silicon Valley.

A little known fact about where you live? San Francisco is only 7 square miles.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Big Sur, near my hometown.
