Look Up by Mari Kojima in Tokyo, Japan

Name:Mari Kojima

Place you live: Shimotakaido, Tokyo

Place your photo was taken: It was taken right by my old office.

Can you sum up Shimotakaido, Tokyo? You can go to this tasty taiyaki (Japanese fish-shaped cake) shop, short bike ride to most of the main districts in Tokyo. The picture was taken at Shinjuku though, which is 10 minutes train ride from my nearest train station. Shinjuku is always super crowded and hectic.

Occupation: Photographer/Event planner

Preoccupation: Walking around, wondering around, mumbling around. Recently, I’ve re-started making patterns and such for sewing.

What is a perfect day in Tokyo? Early morning in Spring or Summer.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Street bombing, but hey don’t be caught. Also, join the No Nukes demonstration if you want to see what is really going on in Japan.

A perfect meal in Tokyo? A Mongolian restaurant called Aozora in Hatagaya. Tasty melting tender lamb and amazing milk alcohol can be found there.

What is the best thing about your spot? There are many parks that I can go chill at.

What is the worst? Many puke stains on the train station grounds and on the streets.

A little known fact about where you live? There’s really nothing famous….

Where is your favorite place in the world? A small beach in Shimane, and Tasmania where I used to live for a year.

Who are your three favorite photographers? Right now, Patrick TsaiRobin SchwartsClaudine Doury.
