Shadowfax by Fauzi Yusoff in Penang, Malaysia

Shadowfax is a travel series of fixed gear bicycling in fascinating places around the world, by Fauzi Yusoff.

It all started with the excitement I had when I bought my new bike in 2010. After cycling for a while, I got the idea to give a special name to my bike. I named it Shadowfax after Gandalf’s white horse, from Lord of the Rings. I started cycling and snapped photos around Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. Then I got excited to explore more and brought my bike to Penang. From there, I planned my next trip to cycle outside Malaysia. I’ve been cycling in Melbourne, Geelong, Phuket, Bangkok, Brunei, Singapore, Hong Kong and more.

Traveling and backpacking is one of my favorite things to do. Most of the time I travel alone with my bike. It gives me more time to feel the moment. It’s great to be a stranger in a new place. I started to make friends and randomly travel with backpackers from all around the world.

Started from a personal project through Instagram, Shadowfax became more popular after it got featured on International Bicycle’s website. From this exposure I got a sponsorship offer from Cannon and Adobe for my next trip. We made Shadowfax @ Penang and Rojak Trip with their help.

I’m planning to meet new people, travel and cycle around the world. I’m looking forward to exploring the world with my Shadowfax.

A perfect day in Penang? Sunday morning. Some of the roads in George Town will be closed to the public. Perfect for cycling.

If someone was visiting, what must they do?  Call me maybe and we should go for “Teh Tarik” and of course we should go cycling!

A perfect meal? Nasi Kandaq, kuah campoq

A little known fact: There are a lot of nice alleys view in George Town. You should take a walk/cycle or take a “Beca” ride to discover it.
