Can you sum up Phoenix? Phoenix, also known as the Valley of the Sun, is the 12th largest metro area in the United States with about 4.2 million people. It is located in central Arizona in the Sonorian Desert and is surrounded by mountains. The city’s main streets run on a precise grid with wide, open-spaced roads. Phoenix has extremely hot summers and warm winters and extremely low humidity.

Occupation: Pilot

Preoccupation: Photographer, father, mountain biking, hiking, skiing.

A perfect day in Phoenix? I travel a lot for a living. My favorite thing is to leave some miserable winter storm behind, get home, put on some shorts and go for a hike with my family, take in the sun light.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Watch the sunset over the city from South Mountains. Hike Apache trail. Visit the Phoenix Art Museum.

A perfect meal in Phoenix Best white pizza I know at Pizzeria Bianco.

What is the best thing about your spot? I’m located in North Phoenix in an area with direct access to the North Mountains Preserve and all its trails.

What is the worst? Occasionally a dust storm makes a mess of my swimming pool. Summers are insanely hot.

A little known fact about where you live? Phoenix stores some of its precious water in huge underground artificial aquifers for future use – pretty nifty.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Some of my favorite places: Bologna, Yosemite National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Brussels.

Who are your three favorite photographers? Vivian MaierAnsel AdamsBill Timmerman and many more…
