Surfing Lake Michigan by Ryan Greaves in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Surfing on Lake Michigan off the Grand Haven Pier. The season starts in Fall and goes until you can’t feel your face. Sometimes the journey is better than the waves, but for that perfect choppy instant it’s worth it.

Can you sum up Grand Rapids? Grand Rapids is known as “Furniture City” as it is home to many international companies like Herman Miller, Steelcase, Haworth and has a long history in manufacturing. It is also located 30 minutes from the Great Lake Michigan. The city is growing fast and is becoming a center for art, design and technology in Michigan. I love it here.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? See a museum, concert or film downtown AND visit the lakeshore.

What and where is a perfect meal in the place you call home? Veggie Pasty at Marie Catrib’s – Served with a side of slaw and a cup of Thai Peanut soup. (Fall and Winter only)

What is the best thing about your spot? I love the size of the city. The cost of living is affordable and there is a great restaurant and art scene. PLUS The Upper Peninsula, Chicago and Detroit are only 3 hours to the North, South and East.

What is the worst? Needs more everything.
