A Different Side of Vegas by Kyle Harris in Las Vegas, Nevada

Welcome to a different side of Las Vegas that you probably didn’t know existed. Calico Basin at Red Rock Canyon is one of my favorite places to go to get away from all of the crazy city life and tourists. The drive getting to Red Rock Canyon is short and absolutely worth your time if you’re into rock climbing, hiking, camping or just love to explore new places. Calico Basin is off Charleston and is within just miles of what you know as “Las Vegas.” I highly recommend checking out Calico and Red Rock. The scenery is to die for and you’ll be glad you visited this desert gem.

Occupation:

Preoccupation:

Exploring and getting away from the madness that is Las Vegas.

Tell us about Las Vegas:

Las Vegas has everything. The strip, the suburbs, the boonies. It’s one of the only places I know of that you can walk over to the corner store and buy a hoagie and a bottle of beer at 4am and play a slot machine while you’re at it. This city is growing and there is so much to do and explore. Las Vegas is my home and I love it.

A perfect day?

A perfect day in Las Vegas for me would be waking up early to go for a hike or run at Red Rock Canyon and then coming back home to relax. I love going to Downtown Las Vegas to see what’s happening because there’s always something exciting and new going on. Looking for food? Nacho Daddy is the spot. Nothing in Vegas is too far away. Whatever you need to make the perfect day, Las Vegas has it.

What is the best thing about Las Vegas?

Access to everything. Everything is always open. Whether you need food, beer, delivery or want to go out and club, it’s all accessible and just within minutes.

What is the worst?

The worst thing would be all the construction. And maybe the belligerent tourists on the strip.

What would be surprising about Las Vegas to an outsider?

There is more than just the Las Vegas Strip. You can go Downtown, there’s an arts district, or go hiking and rock climbing in the desert. -The possibilities out here are endless.

If your city was a person or character who would it be?

Indiana Jones because he’s always exploring, getting into trouble and having fun.

Who are three of your favorite artists?

I love Quentin Tarantino, Imagine Dragons, FUN, Switchfoot.
