Chicago From Every Angle by Chris Blough in Chicago, IL, USA

Chicago is a great city from any angle: from above, from below, from afar. In Chicago, you can be enjoying yourself at the lake one moment, and the next be in the city’s “loop”, which has the same hustle and bustle as Manhattan. It’s a happy medium living here.

Tell us about Chicago:

Chicago is a beautiful city. Lake Michigan is like an ocean in the sense that you can’t see what’s on the other side. In the summer, people flock to its beaches, just like they do in a west or east coast beach town. That’s why we like to refer to ourselves as “the third coast”.

A perfect day in Chicago?

A fall day during one of the city’s many street fests. Great music, great food, and great company.

What is the best thing about Chicago?

Access to the lake, the downtown skyline, and of course Lou Malnati’s pizza.

What is the worst?

The everlasting winters.

What would be surprising about Chicago to an outsider?

The people are very friendly. Even though it’s a big city you’ll still hear “excuse me”, “please”, and “thank you”.

If Chicago was a person who would it be?

John Candy. I don’t know why, but I like that.

Who are three of your favorite artists?

Richard Mosse (photographer of the Infrared Congo Series), Vince Gilligan (writer on Breaking Bad, X-Files), and Cliff Martinez (composer)
