Cycle Culture by Mark Peckmezian in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Toronto has a great cycling culture. The city is really flat, there are a good amount of bike lanes, and cycling is really popular. This photo was taken when a few friends and I were going for a bike ride. We were stopped at a light and I turned around and saw my friend, Andrew, and decided to take this photo.

Can you sum up Toronto? Toronto is a really pleasant place, but perhaps a bit boring. It’s very livable: clean, safe, good economy, decent public transportation, lots of nice neighbourhoods, etc. But it also sometimes just feels like a very large small town. It’s not a terribly exciting place, and the people are, by many accounts, pretty uptight.

Occupation: Photographer

Preoccupation: Photography

A perfect day in Toronto? Just a nice summer day. There are lots of good parks to hang out in.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Just rent a bike and explore.

A little known fact about where you live? I was born and raised in Toronto but don’t identify with the city too much.

Where is your favorite place in the world? New York City and Montreal are favourites.
