Don’t Question Why by Aaron Smith in Los Angeles, California, USA

This photo is of John Fitzgerald doing a frontside ollie at a Government building in Los Angeles. This building has this perfect ramp like architecture right in the front which makes it really appealing to skate. The downside is they never let you do it. So John and I ran up there one day and somehow got about 10 minutes to skate. I loved that there were clouds in the sky and an American flag in the reflections. I don’t think I could recreate this photo if I tried. It was just one of those things where everything works out and you don’t question why.

Name:Aaron Smith

Place you live: Santa Monica, CA

Can you sum up your area? Southern California has the best combination of everything. Besides the amazing weather you’re able to experience so many things in one day. It’s like it’s own little country. I love it!

Occupation: Staff Photographer at Skateboarder Magazine

Preoccupation: Hanging out with my girlfriend Fatima and my dog Kansas.

A perfect day in LA? A warm day with clouds in the sky. California has too many perfect days with no clouds in the sky. I like to look up and see something besides blue.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? There’s too much to name. Each city has their own thing going on. But if you were to visit Santa Monica head down to the Third Street Promenade. It’s hard not to like that.

A perfect meal? Cafe Gratitude

What is the best thing about your spot? We have a little house with a yard. Can’t beat that.

What is the worst? Traffic (cliche answer)

A little known fact about where you live? You don’t need need a car to get all around Santa Monica.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Paris

Who are your three favorite photographers? Irving Penn, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Brian Gaberman
