Garfield Park by Jesse Tise in Garfield Park, South Pasadena, California, USA

Garfield Park is definitely that one spot in South Pasadena where everyone goes to relax and take a break from the stress of everyday life. Its a fairly big but quiet park, so its easy to just meditate there, and let the world slow down around you.

Name:Jesse Tise

Place you live: South Pasadena, California

Place your postcard is designed for: Garfield Park

Can you sum up South Pasadena? South Pasadena’s this small but beautiful town, with lots of old craftsmen-style houses and greenery and plant life  everywhere. Theres lots of rambling side streets that criss cross through hilly terrain; ideal stomping grounds when you just feel like dropping all your work and going out for a nighttime stroll. I teach during the day in Downtown L.A., so coming home to South Pas is often a welcome change from life in the city.

Occupation: Freelance illustration design.

Preoccupation: Zine-making, printmaking.

A perfect day in South Pasadena? When all my jobs are wrapped up and I can leave the confines of my studio nook and grab a bite to eat somewhere with my lovely lady-person.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Go to Fair Oaks Pharmacy and grab a banana split sundae (how often do you actually get to eat one of those things anyway?)

A perfect meal in Pasadena? Can’t go wrong with Gus’ Barbecue on Fair Oaks!

What is the best thing about Pasadena? Everyone who lives here is super friendly.

And the worst? Absolutely no night life; everything closes up so early!

A little known fact about where you live? Lots of films and TV shows have been shot here, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Mad Men.

Where is your favorite place in the world? L.A. – It used to be New York, but I’ve really come to love living here a lot.

Who are your three favorite designers/illustrators? I try to follow creatives outside of illustration mostly; I’m a big fan of the fine artist, Nick Cave, as well as 1950’s graphic designer, Alvin Lustig. I get a lot of inspiration from music also; Flying Lotus is a huge favorite of mine.
