Jessie and the Missouri by Daniel Farnum in Columbia, Missouri

Columbia is a melting pot history and modern life. It is a mix of rural tradition and forward thinkers.

Name:Daniel Farnum

Place you live: Columbia, Missouri

Place your photo was taken: A time capsule of a town called Huntsdale that is right outside Columbia. This is the riverbank of the Missouri River (Big Muddy).

Occupation: Professor at the University of Missouri

Preoccupation: Pictures, San Francisco burritos, and baseball.

What is a perfect day in Columbia? The True/False Film Festival. There are tons of people and lots of great documentary films. Look it up.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Eat two burgers at Booches and/or drive down to the Missouri River.

A perfect meal in Columbia? Again, eat burgers at Booches. The pizza at Shakespeare’s is excellent too. Get the thin crust though. You could also drive to Kansas City for BBQ at Arthur Bryant’s. It is a hike, but worth the drive.

What is the best thing about your spot? It is a college town. There are cultural opportunities, lots of interesting people, and good food.

What is the worst? Kansas City and St. Louis are two hours away in opposite directions. I wish either one was closer….especially Kansas City.

A little known fact about where you live? The owner of the football team Arsenal lives in Columbia despite being a team from England.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Detroit, Michigan. Michigan as a state in general is where my heart is. Columbia is where I live and I really like it. I am a northerner though and frequently photograph up there too.
