Loch Lomond by Richard Gaston in Ben Dubh, in Luss, Scotland

My friend David (in the photograph) and I went a hill walk to Ben Dubh in Luss (looking over Loch Lomand). It was a cloudy, overcast, autumn day. However, as soon as we got to the summit, of over 700 meters, the sun broke through the clouds and the views were spectacular. This image was shot as soon as we discovered the views over Loch Lomand. As you can see the several islands plotted in Loch Lomand.

Name:Richard Gaston

Place you live: Near Glasgow, Scotland

Place your photo was taken: Ben Dubh, in Luss

Can you sum up the place you live in a short paragraph? Where I live is a small, remote village near Glasgow. Everyone knows one another, a friendly environment. full of pubs, local markets and parks. Overall, Scotland has such a diverse combination of land in such a short space. You can be looking at a beautiful remote loch and in half an hours drive, you can be in a vibrant city full of people. It’s a perfect combination for myself.

Occupation: Sales Associate at American Apparel.

What is a perfect day in your city, town, or village? Weather is the initial day maker. If it’s nice, I don’t sit in. I would go a walk, hill walk, drive, explore new places. Then grab some food with some friends and find a sweet spot to chill or go out to a club in town.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Visit Loch Lomand, rent a log cabin, a boat and trail around the loch. On the next day, climb Ben Arthur (The Cobbler). Then go down to the local pub and have a fish n chips.

What and where is a perfect meal in the place you call home?  Deep fried fish and chips, topped with salt and vinegar. My mum and dad go visiting chippies (fish and chip shops) every Sunday all over Scotland. Once they told me that they had travelled 7 hours in total to get a chippy.

What is the best thing about your spot? The views and the people.

What is the worst? The weather can be unpredictable, however when it’s nice it is not taken for granted.

A little known fact about where you live? Loch Lomand has the largest lake / loch in Great Britain, by surface area.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Norway, specifically in amongst the fjords.

Who are your three favorite photographers? Specifically, Luke Byrne form Australia. He always traveling, adventuring, visiting new places and documents them online. That’s all it takes to inspire me.
