Name:Rylan Tuohy

Place you live: I am in the Navy and currently live in Annapolis, Maryland. My Instagram images are a collection of places that the Navy has taken me.

Can you sum up Annapolis? Annapolis is an East Coast small, historic town on the Chesapeake Bay. With cobble streets and architecture that resemble the colonial period, Annapolis provides a stunning backdrop to the sailboats on the water. Along with the U.S. Naval Academy, I call Annapolis home. As a Midshipman at the Naval Academy, I am on the Offshore Sailing team which takes me all over the world. With a town sometimes known as the Sailing Capital of the World, Annapolis is rich in history and adventures.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? When visiting Annapolis, take a tour of the U.S. Naval Academy, go sailing, go yachting, walk the historic downtown, and definitely eat a bite at Chick and Ruth’s Delly.

Best meal in your city? Crabcakes… Definitely crabcakes, found almost in any restaurant.

How long have you been using Instagram? I started Instagram in January 2012. So I just had my two-year mark.

What phone camera do you use to shoot? When I first started shooting on Instagram, I used my Iphone 4. Now I use my Iphone 5.

What is your editing process? What apps do you use, if any to edit your photos? I first used Snapseed to edit my photos; however, a few months ago I switched to VSCOcam because I liked its simplicity.

Do you create images outside of Instagram? I first began by making videos, and then I started photography. Instagram came after that.

Has Instagram affected how you shoot? I don’t believe that Instagram has affected how I shoot, but rather made me more aware of my environment. Having the always available Instagram to snap images on-the-go, I believe I have become more in tune with the elements of art around me.

Does your feed differ from your work outside of instagram? Not really. If anything, I take more artistic risks with Instagram posting images that I find just ‘pretty’ rather than always ‘artistic.’ I use my Iphone as my portable DSLR taking images when my digital camera may be too bulky to bring along.

Who are your three favorite Instagrammers? Garrett Gove @garrettgrove – I love his unique collection of different images. Drew Davison @tennisguy – His feed is a documentary of images. Dan Cole @dankhole – His eye for the elements of art is mesmerizing.
