Ocean Beach by Paul Ferraris in Ocean Beach, San Francisco, California, USA

This is classic Ocean Beach. I snapped this image a couple of blocks from my house at surf look out spot. This wave is about eight foot and it is as good as it gets. There were a handfull of people surfing. The wave appears to be swallowing the city but that illusion is created because of telephoto compression.

A perfect day in San Francisco? San Francisco is an amazing city. But it is not a beach town because the beach is usually cold, windy and pissing fog. However, a handful of days a year San francisco turns into a beach town, the wind comes from the east, the fog lifts and the waves get really good. On those days the whole city come to the beach.  The rich tapestry of people and pets blanket the sands. These are the perfect days in San Francisco.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Find a bike and ride through the city!

A perfect meal? San Francisco has great food in every neighborhood, if you happen here on a sunny day I would recommend heading to Noriega produce, grabbing some cheese, a baguette, fresh organic fruit and a bottle of wine and head to the beach a couple of blocks away. After surfing head to The Pizza place on Noriega for a beer and pizza before calling it a night.

What is the best thing about your spot? The people. Ocean Beach San Francisco is like a small town in a big city.

What is the worst? The lack of trees and abundance of litter.

A little known fact about where you live? The western half of the city was miles of vast, massive san dunes.

Where is your favorite place in the world? Just down the street and 40 yards off shore.

Who are your three favorite photographers? Jeff DevineJames Nachtwey, and Glen E. Friedman
