Simple and Slow by Lauren Marek in Bellville, Texas 77418

I’ve spent most of my life in Bellville. It’s a small town about an hour outside of Houston. Life here is simple and slow, and that’s how I like it. I love capturing everyday life here. The people have such passion for what they do and what they love.

Name:Lauren Marek
Occupation:

Marketing and freelance photography.

Preoccupation:

I’m the biggest TV addict. If I’m not taking photos, I’m probably binge watching a new show.

Tell us about Belville:

Where small town living is a way of life. That’s how our chamber of commerce puts it. Bellville boasts a population of around 4,000 people, which means you’ll run into someone you know wherever you go. I like that.

A perfect day?

The perfect day for me would begin with sleeping in just a little. I’d make some tea and walk around the yard in my pajamas. Since it’s almost lunch, Dad would start grilling some chicken. We’d all eat and talk in the kitchen. Maybe an afternoon filled with antique shopping or hitting up some estate sales. We’d then stop for margaritas and Mexican food in town and relax.

What is the best thing about Bellville?

Wide open spaces.

What is the worst?

Everything closes at 9pm.

What would be surprising about Bellville to an outsider?

We’re not all cowboys.

If Bellville was a person or character who would it be?

Brahma Bull (our mascot).

Who are three of your favorite artists?

Terrence Malick, Mary Ellen Mark, Sarah Jaffe
