Watauga Lake by Tammy Mercure in Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee, USA

This photograph is from Watauga Lake in the Cherokee National Forest. One day this summer I went to the lake with John Hathaway, a fellow photographer, to adventure around the lake. We met great people hanging out on their houseboats, cooling down in the water, camping and grilling, and goofing around on rope swings.

Name:Tammy Mercure

Place you live: Bristol, TN

Place your photo was taken: Cherokee National Forest right outside of Elizabethton, TN

Can you sum up Bristol? I live in East Tennessee. It is a great place to live with interesting people and amazing landscapes.

Occupation: Photographer, Assistant Professor of Photography

Preoccupation: Right now- dogs, fiddles, and flea markets

A perfect day in Bristol? A long lunch, taking photos, and driving around and finding something new.

If someone was visiting, what must they do? Talk to some people. Everyone has great stories.

A perfect meal in Bristol? Bee bim bop from a Korean place called Red Chili in Elizabethton. There is a huge diversity in foods around here which always surprises friends from out of town.

What is the best thing about your spot? It is beautiful, quiet, and a great place to cool off in the summer.

What is the worst? It can be dangerous. People routinely get hurt on rope swings and on boats.

A little known fact about where you live? I think the author of Hunger Games was thinking about this area for District 12. You can see where they filmed some of the movie right outside of Asheville, NC.

Where is your favorite place in the world? I really love the southeast US and D.C.

Who are your three favorite photographers? Too many to name. To promote some projects I really love- Noelle McCleafZachary Norman, and Zak Arctander.
