Happy People by Catherine Coy in Laguna Beach, California

Living in Southern California, surfing is a main part of our daily lives. We gravitate to the beautiful beaches and love to be athletic, so surfing is a natural sport for us to adopt. Surfing is something that is meditative and exciting at the same time. Everyone from the very young to the very old enjoy it, especially in the warm summer months!

Occupation:

Home Designer

Preoccupation:

Photography! I have always loved taking photos. I still have the first photograph I ever took at the age of four. It’s of my parents snuggled together, sitting on a sand dune at the beach. I enjoy capturing the beauty of life and nature and preserving a moment in time.

Tell us about Laguna Beach:

Laguna Beach was originally an artist colony and is still a major art-based community here in Southern California. It is also a nature preserve and is filled with many picturesque coves and beaches. It’s an inspiring place to live!

A perfect day?

We love to walk to the beach with the kids and the dog and just spend time in the ocean. We usually stay for the day, bring a picnic and try not to miss the gorgeous sunsets!

What is the best thing about Laguna Beach?

Fresh air, sunshine, happy people and beautiful, clean ocean water filled with wildlife and surfers!

What is the worst?

Traffic in the summer is our only real bummer here in Laguna Beach. Everyone wants to come and visit!

What would be surprising about Laguna Beach to an outsider?

How many secret beaches and coves there are. It’s a magical and quiet place if you know where to go.

If Laguna Beach was a person or character who would it be?

An artist who surfs! Someone who is very creative and also loves the ocean.

Who are three of your favorite artists?

My favorite artists are my Mom, Christin Coy, a landscape oil painter; Jeff Curtes, a snowboard photographer and the author John Steinbeck.
