Can you sum up Austin? Uniquely Texan. It has elements of “old Austin” mixed with exciting new chapters to add to the Austin experience. People are not trying to be anything but themselves here and that’s one of the reasons I love it. There is a fantastic music scene coupled with a close artist community and everyone supports each other. It’s wonderful.

What is a perfect day in your spot? Breakfast tacos, spending time at Farewell Books, swimming, location scouting (shooting reference images of murals, old buildings, new buildings, exploring space around and outside of the city), checking out an exhibit at Laguna Gloria Art Museum, stopping by Hotel San Jose for a glass of Sparkling Rose, seeing a movie at Alamo Drafthouse, eating late night dinner at Justine’s.

If Austin was a person or character who would it be and why? Perhaps it would be a hybrid of Willie Nelson and Bill Murray. Both frequent the city limits and both represent lifestyles that are widely accepted here. Austin loves both Willie and Bill. A Lot.

How long have you been using Instagram? Since the very beginning!

Do you shoot with your phone or other cameras or both? I shoot with both. I have an iPhone 5s and a Canon 6D, so I use the wireless element to transfer images straight to my phone if I want to post them.

What is your editing process? I exclusively use VSCO software for editing. I use it for mobile editing, as well as use its presets in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Has Instagram/phoneography affected how you shoot? On my own account, I enjoy sharing images that I find day to day just as much as I do when I post images of Fashion Editorials. It’s exciting to shoot for an audience, to get a public commentary that can be both positive and sometimes negative. Shooting and posting for the Hotel San Jose account has been a great experience to use my style but to shoot for an audience that is not unique to following me and the images that I usually shoot for myself. It’s a great exercise that I do several times a week.

Can you give a couple tips to aspiring Instagram photographers? Shoot constantly, post thoughtfully, but don’t ever take yourself too seriously.
