Can you sum up Santa Barbara? Santa Barbara is a sleepy town situated several hours north of San Diego. While the main economy is based around the summer month’s tourism, Santa Barbara has a thriving surf economy and a niche indy art scene. Consisting of beautiful beaches, lush mountains and farmland to both the north and the south, Santa Barbara has the feeling of a safe haven from the chaos of Los Angeles, but is a civilized little community that enjoys the beauty of central california.

A perfect day in Santa Barbara? I travel 10 months out of the year but Santa Barbara will always be home. When I return, usually for winter holidays or to relax from a strenuous bout of work, I try to surf, hike, and do art as much as possible. Santa Barbara has spectacular mountains filled with serene, untouched trails. The surf is world-class in the winter, and the local seafood and produce is unlike anything else the world has to offer, making home-cooked meals extra tasty.
If someone was visiting, what must they do? Hiking is a must, as well as visiting the Channel Islands.
A perfect meal in Santa Barbara? The farmer’s market and fisherman’s wharf offer world-class produce and seafood to prepare at home, but Santa Barbara also has amazing cuisine… Pace’s gourmet burgers and Sakana sushi are at the top of my list.
What is the best thing about your spot? It’s close to the prosperity of Los Angeles but has the environment of Central California, so there is no pollution, the beach & mountains are uncrowded and relatively clean.
What is the worst? The summer months see a lot of traffic, as well as the opulence of some residents that move here from the nearby Los Angeles.
A little known fact about where you live? The majority of downtown Santa Barbara used to be a marsh until the 30’s and 40’s, when it was filled in with dirt and literally paved over by buildings and roads.
Where is your favorite place in the world? Western Australia, New York, and Paris.
Who are your three favorite photographers? Will Adler, Elliot Erwitt, Jon Frank.
